Professor Dr. Ian Blackshaw

Professor Dr Ian Blackshaw is an International Sports Lawyer and a former Vice President Legal Affairs of the ISL Sports Marketing Group, Lucerne, Switzerland.
He qualified as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales and holds a Master’s Degree in International Sports Law and also a Doctor of Laws Degree from Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), Cambridge, United Kingdom, where he is a Visiting Professor and a founder member of the ARU International Law Unit.

He has taught International Sports Law at Wolfson College Cambridge, United Kingdom and International Sports Arbitration at Seoul National University, South Korea.

He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Mediation Centre at Canterbury Christ Church University, United Kingdom.

He is Visiting Professor at the Universities of Pretoria and Johannesburg, Visiting Fellow at the prestigious Adams & Adams Centre for Intellectual Property Law at the University of Pretoria, South Africa.

He is also a former Visiting Professor at AISTS (International Academy of Sports Science and Technology), Lausanne, Switzerland.

He is a member of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, Lausanne, Switzerland; a member of the Expert Dispute Resolution Panel of EQUESTES in The Netherlands; and also a member of the World Intellectual Property (WIPO) Arbitration and Mediation Center, Geneva, Switzerland, where he adjudicates on the WIPO Panels on ‘Domain Name Disputes’. He also renders ‘Expert Opinions’ on International Sports Law.

He is a founder member of the Integrity Unit of the International Bobsleigh Federation, Lausanne, Switzerland.

He is also a prolific author of articles for several International Law Journals, including the Entertainment and Sports Law Journal, the World Sports Law Report, the IBA Business Law International Journal, the European Lawyer, Marquette Sports Law Review, and the Journal of Global Sport Management; and is also the author of several Books on Sports Law, many of which are part of the Asser International Sports Law Series, including Books on ‘Sports Image Rights’; ‘Sport and TV Rights’; ‘Sport Mediation and Arbitration’; ‘Sports Marketing Agreements: The Legal, Fiscal and Practical Aspects’; and ‘International Sports Law: An Introductory Guide’.

He has contributed Chapters on ‘Sports Arbitration’ in the Book ‘Access to Justice in Arbitration’ published by Kluwer Law International, The Netherlands, and on ‘Mediating Sports Disputes’ in the second edition of the Book ‘Handbook on International Sports Law’ published by Edward Elgar Publishing, United Kingdom.

He is also a contributor to the TMC Asser Yearbook on International Sports Law Arbitration, and on Sports Law to ‘The New Oxford Companion to Law’, as well as ‘The Times’ of London and the ‘New Law Journal’.

He is also Consulting Editor of Sports Law and Taxation (official website: www.sportslawandtaxation.com).

He also chairs and speaks at International Sports Law Conferences and Seminars in the UK and in many other parts of the world.
