FIGHTING RACISM IN FOOTBALL IN FRANCE

Fighting racism in football in France is an ongoing issue and the French Football Federation (FFF) condemns all forms of discrimination through its ‘Stop Violence and Discrimination’ campaign.

The FFF provides an official ‘I’ll Report’ platform for reporting any reprehensible behaviour, which is then handled by its disciplinary committees.

The FFF also provides an educational programme on ‘Combating Racism and Antisemitism’ on its website at ‘www.fff.fr’.

In addition to these resources of the FFF, legal support and advice is available by contacting the specialised unit of ‘SOS Racisme’, which is an international movement of anti-racist Non-Governmental Orgainsations, whose website is at ‘sos-racism.org’.

During a NIKE U18 Cup Quarter Final match between the French Football Clubs Olympique de Marseille and Stade de Reims on 8 March 2026, racist insults and monkey chants were directed at Marseille players, which the FFF condemned “in the strongest possible terms” in a statement issued on 10 March 2026.

A report on these incidents was filed by the FFF with the Public Prosecutors Office and the relevant FFF disciplinary committees were also notified to determine the appropriate course of action to be taken. The FFF also offered its support to the players, who were the victims of the racist and discriminatory insults.

Marseille also issued a condemnatory statement on 9 March 2026 in the following terms:

Racism and all other forms of discrimination are an attack on the fundamental values that football must embody: respect, inclusion, and living together. Olympique de Marseille wishes to express its full support for the players who were targeted by these insults.”

The FFF has powers through its disciplinary committees to impose fines and sporting sanctions in cases of discrimination and racism in French football.
