AMATEUR WEIGHTLIFTER SUSPENDED AND FINED FOR DOPING

Swiss Sport Integrity (SSI) has imposed a three-year suspension on an amateur weightlifter for the possession and attempted trafficking of BPC-157 and has also ordered her to pay a fine.

During a postal inspection, a package containing the prohibited substance BPC-157, addressed to an amateur athlete, was seized by the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS) and referred to SSI.

In accordance with the Federal Act on the Promotion of Sport, SSI subsequently issued a decision for the destruction of these products, with the associated costs to be borne by the individual. As part of the disciplinary proceedings, the amateur weightlifter was informed that the possession and use of a prohibited substance constituted a potential violation of the Swiss Olympic Anti-Doping Statute.

During the subsequent results management process, the amateur athlete explained that she had not ordered the prohibited substance for her own personal use or to achieve athletic goals, but rather for the purpose of promoting the health of a third party—an act that constitutes attempted trafficking.

She chose to accept an agreement proposed by SSI under Article 10.8.1 of the Anti-Doping Statute. This agreement includes a three-year suspension (reduced from four years), a fine of 150 Swiss francs, and the disqualification of all results obtained since November 7, 2025, as a sanction for the possession and attempted trafficking of the prohibited substance.

The suspension remains in effect until September 7, 2029, and applies to all sports and all roles within the sporting world, globally.

SSI reminds all athletes that the importation of doping substances is strictly prohibited. In the event of an anti-doping rule violation, even recreational-level athletes can be suspended. These rules therefore apply regardless of an athlete’s competitive level, age, or nationality.
