Swiss Sport Integrity (SSI) has imposed, on 29 September 2026, a two-year suspension on an amateur boxer for the presence, possession, and use of the prohibited substance of abuse tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and ordered him to pay a fine.<\/p>\n
During an in-competition doping control, an amateur boxer tested positive for 11-nor-9-carboxy-delta-THC, a metabolite of the specified substance THC (cannabis), which is prohibited in competition. The athlete was subsequently informed of the positive sample by SSI.<\/p>\n
During the proceedings, the boxer stated that he had last consumed cannabis approximately one month prior to the test, but that this had no connection to his athletic performance.<\/p>\n
However, given the concentration of the THC metabolite in the collected sample, the Swiss Laboratory for Doping Analyses (LAD) deemed this explanation highly implausible. Consequently, the athlete was unable to credibly prove that the consumption had occurred outside of competition.<\/p>\n
The amateur boxer subsequently admitted to the anti-doping rule violation. As a result, SSI suspended him for two years for the presence of cannabis metabolites in the sample, as well as for the possession and use of a prohibited substance. The suspension runs from May 12, 2026\u2014the start date of the voluntarily accepted provisional suspension\u2014and applies to all sports and all roles within sport worldwide. Furthermore, the results achieved by the boxer since the date of the positive test have been disqualified.<\/p>\n
He is also required to pay a fine of 150 francs, as well as testing and analysis costs totalling 1,408 francs.<\/p>\n
Natural and synthetic cannabinoids are prohibited in competition under the currently effective Prohibited List.<\/p>\n
SSI recommends that athletes generally refrain from consuming cannabis, including hemp and CBD products.<\/p>\n
