World Athletics, the Governing Body of Track and Field Sport, following consultations with member federations and stakeholders, has updated its eligibility rules on transgender women athletes participating in its events.<\/p>\n

These athletes will now be required to undergo a „once-in-a-lifetime<\/em>“ SRY gene test to determine eligibility for the female category in international competitions.<\/p>\n

This test, which is regarded as a reliable indicator of biological sex, will be conducted through a cheek swab or a blood test.<\/p>\n

The new rules are designed to protect the integrity of women’s sport and to ensure competitive fairness and will come into effect on 1 September 2025.<\/p>\n

They will apply to the forthcoming\u00a0World Athletics Championships, which will be held in Tokyo<\/a> from 13 \u2013 21 September 2025.<\/p>\n

World Athletics has also committed to further consultations on transgender inclusion in its sport.<\/p>\n
